“Yes, she’s my lady luck and I’m her wild card man. Together we’re buildin’ up a real hot hand. We live out in the country, she’s my little queen of the South (ok maybe not South, but certainly East County). Yea, we’re two of a kind, workin’ on a BLUE house.”
To introduce ourselves, we are Nathaniel and Allison, and like the lyrics say we’re two of a kind and working on a blue house! We are first time home buyers that just happened to buy a fixer upper in sunny San Diego’s “East County,” out where the green grass grows. We’re starting this blog if nothing else, to document our experiences through our renovations and maybe, just maybe, inspire a few folks to get their hands dirty with some do-it-yourself projects! We are excited to share our adventure turning this house into a home, and all of the good times and hard work that goes along with it.
There will be plenty of time to go more into detail about the house, but first, a glimpse of who we are and how we got here:
Allison and I met through friends’ way back when, we don’t have a specific date when we met but it was the somewhere year of 2008? or maybe 2009? We started dating in the spring of 2010 and haven’t looked back since! In 2014, we got engaged, and bought our first home pretty much in the same week! It was an overwhelming but exciting time to say the least. We got married on April 4, 2015 and it was a celebration of a lifetime for us. We are also parents to a wonderful little boy named Jacob and beautiful little girl, Jenna.
Allison works at San Diego State University and I manage a Theater for the San Diego Community College. Together, we enjoy the outdoors, tending to our little farm that consists of 8 chickens, 2 goats, 2 dogs, and 2 cats, and two-steppin’ the night away with friends. Allison has lived in the San Diego area her entire life and I grew up in Fallbrook, just a little bit away at the northern tip of San Diego County. Both wanting a place with wide open spaces, we decided a few years ago to start saving to buy a home of our own. It wasn’t until 2014 that all our ducks lined up and we found our brown (soon to be) blue little gem. And that’s what brings us to this spot now.
So here’s our own little piece of the web, detailing our journey as home owners and making our new house “ours.” It’s going to be exciting, wonderful, stressful, exhausting, and every other descriptive word you can think of, but at least we can call it home.
Thanks for following us on this exciting adventure!
